 YOUR CONTROL PANEL

We are pleased to offer a fully featured Control Panel. Our Control Panel makes creating and maintaining your web site simple. You can access your Control Panel at: http://yourdomainname.com.au/admin or the IP address which was provided in your welcome email eg. http://123.123.123.123/admin

(Remember that if your domain is not yet registered, you must substitute your IP address in the above address. Once your domain name is registered, you can access your control panel using your domain name e.g. http://yourdomainname.com.au/menu)

To log into your control panel, use the username and password assigned to your account.

The Control Panel allows you to do such things as manage your email accounts, manage your files, change password, view your statistics, etc. A complete overview of the Control Panel can be found at the "Help" button within the Control Panel.

 SETTING UP YOUR E-MAIL PROGRAM

Any email program that supports the POP3/SMTP protocol may be used, eg Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus, etc

When using mail software, like Eudora or Outlook, to retrieve your e-mail, use this info for the set up.

User Name = If this is your default account then the User Name will be the same as your control panel login name.

Password = The same as your control panel password unless you have changed it in the Site Administrator control panel. Note: your password for the control panel and the default mail account are set up with the same password, but each can be set independently so if you change your control panel password your default email account password will not be changed.

Outgoing SMTP mail server = use your local ISP's mail server

Incoming POP mail server = mail.yourdomain.com.au

Return Address = enter your e-mail address

This will get you started with the first of your mailboxes,

To customise your site's e-mail account and make use of all its features, log into your Site Administrator or Site User control panel. All e-mail functions including aliases and autoresponders can be controlled here.

Incidentally, you will receive "all" incoming e-mail addressed to ___________@yourdomainname.com.au by default. This means you have unlimited incoming addresses under your domain name.

 MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

1.) Your cgi-bin has the following path;

/var/www/cgi-bin

The URL to your cgi-bin is

http://yourdomainname.com.au/cgi-bin

You can put your cgi scripts there. If you put in any perl scripts, make sure you have the permissions set to 775 for the cgi scripts to be executable. Also, be sure that the perl path in the first line of your script is /usr/local/bin/perl.

2.) To see your web statistics log into your Site Administrator control panel and select either Webalizer or Analog. The statistics are updated each day.

3.) General problems to avoid

  • filenames are case sensitive so they must match or you will get a "file not found" error.
  • transfer perl scripts and text files as ASCII text
  • transfer gif and jpg images as image or binary file type
  • MAC users should transfer files as raw data
  • If your perl script doesn't work, the two most common reasons are that permissions are not set right
    a) either on the scripts or files and directories they write to,
    b) or the paths are wrong.

4.) Please keep your account information current, including e-mail address and phone numbers. Advise us by email at accounts@mrmhosting.com

5.) MySQL - If you are using MySQL, once you have set up a database, the username and password is set to your default which is the password you use to access the control panel. If you change your control panel password after setting up your database, it does not change for the database, so make sure you hold on to the original password.
